Best Laptop Brands in India

Best Laptop Brands in India – Brand recognition still holds a lot of value in the Indian market. Taking a look at the current market, more and more people are buying laptops every day as they are becoming increasingly affordable. Laptops are slowly becoming like smartphones in the sense that everybody owns one. And if you are a college student it has pretty much become mandatory for you to own a good laptop. Not to mention the popularity of gaming in the Indian youth. Given the sheer amount of Indian youth in college, it makes sense that laptop manufacturers are increasingly investing more and more towards marketing their products to Indian consumers. But even with so many brands present in India, only a few have managed to come on top. In this article, we have covered the best laptop brands in India in terms of market share.

Best Laptop Brands in India

1) HP

HP or Hewlett-Packard is currently the biggest player in the Indian personal computer market in terms of annual sales. This American company was first established in 1947 by two guys with last names Hewlett and Packard. Fun Fact – they tossed a coin to decide whether the company will be named Hewlett-Packard or Packard-Hewlett. HP was one of the first companies to enter the Indian market which explains why it has gained so much popularity and trust in India currently. The American company produces a wide range of budget laptops which India is all for. In the higher price range, HP manufactures some ultrabooks and not a lot of gaming laptops as the company mostly focuses on work-related computing. The list of innovations from HP is endless, from the world’s first scientific calculator to their latest Spectre line-up.

2) Dell

Dell is an American company named after its founder Michael Dell which was founded in 1984 in said man’s dorm room. Yes, he was in college at the time. Eventually, Michael Dell dropped out of college to give more time to his company which grossed $73 million in its first year. Dell entered the Indian market a bit late but still managed to capture a decent market share thanks to their quality products available at cheaper prices. Dell’s popular laptop line-ups include the Inspiron line-up which ranges from the budget range to the mid-to-high price range, the XPS line-up which includes ultrabooks and the popular Alienware (aka. father of all gaming laptops) line-up which features high-performance gaming laptops.

3) Lenovo

Lenovo is a Chinese tech company headquartered in Beijing which was first established in 1984 (that’s the same year as Dell) by a group of ten engineers. Since then, the company has expanded into various markets like desktop computers, laptops, tablets and many more. Lenovo is doing exceptionally well in India thanks to their budget laptop line-ups like the Ideapad line-up which has good quality laptops starting at under 20000 rupees. In fact, this article is being written on an Ideapad laptop. Other line-ups from Lenovo include ThinkPad and ThinkBook which mostly focus on work-oriented consumers, the Yoga line-up which features convertible laptops and the Legion line-up that offers gaming laptops in the mid to high price range.

4) Acer

Acer as a company was founded in 1974 in Taiwan which is where it is headquartered right now. It began with 11 engineers at the time and since then has grown its employee base to over 7000. Acer predominantly manufactures personal computers but also has its presence in other markets like tablets, smartphones and virtual reality products. Acer sub-brands include the Predator line-up which offers gaming desktop PCs and accessories and the Nitro line-up which features gaming laptops. As you can tell by the employee numbers, Acer isn’t a huge company when compared to other companies on here. So it makes sense that they don’t offer a lot of variety in their products but it also makes their success in India an impressive feat.

5) Asus

Asus (as in ‘Pegasus’) is another Taiwanese company that specializes in the personal computer market. In 2017, Asus became the world’s fifth-largest personal computer manufacturer by unit sales. Other markets that Asus has dipped its toes in are WiFi routers, projectors, wearables, smartphones and tablets. Some of the popular sub-brands of Asus include the infamous ROG (Republic of Gamers) line-up which offers high-end premium gaming laptops and a similar TUF line-up which stands for ‘The Ultimate Force’ (Asus’ good with abbreviations) that features gaming laptops as well but in the budget range (well, relatively). Besides gaming, Asus also makes high-performance laptops for work (the so-called ultrabooks) under the ZenBook line-up. The latest Asus ZenBook Pro Duo is amazing (it has two screens).

6) Apple

Apple is an American company was founded by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne in 1976 in their garage. This American company has come a long way since then but it is still not doing so good in India even after being one of the most successful companies on the planet. Even with smartphones, they don’t hold a decent market share in India. Reason being, you guessed it, their incapability to manufacture good quality products in the budget range. But maybe even they don’t want to, but that’s really hard to believe given the potential profit that they can make if they invest in the Indian market. Either way, the truth is that they are losing money. The two laptop line-ups that Apple offers are the MacBook and the MacBook Air. The latter being an ultra-thin and high-performance version of the former.
